The Liebster Award

I hadn’t heard of the Liebster Award before I started blogging, but it seems to be a fun way of promoting other bloggers. The basic idea is that you answer the questions you’ve been asked, then nominate a few other bloggers and give them some questions to answer. And I’ve been very kindly nominated by The Invisible Vision Project – thank you so much! 🙂 They’ve also nominated Nataemily and Blind Moving On, whose blogs I also recommend checking out.

So here are my answers to the questions I’ve been asked, followed by my questions for the bloggers I nominate at the end.

Do you play any sports? If you do, what are they?

When I was a kid, I was a member of a local sports club taking part in swimming galas  around the country along with occasional athletics events. It went well, and I still have lots of medals to show for it, but I gave up on it in my teenage years to focus on other things. These days, I enjoy going out and walking around places, which I’m particularly looking forward to doing when I move to London later this year. And I also enjoy occasional  games of pool, ten-pin bowling or crazy golf. That’s about as sporty as I get!

What is your favourite color?

I like a variety of colours, it really depends on what it’s being applied to. Blue is the one that tends to come mind when I’m asked this though.

What is one particular thing or place you are afraid of?

Bees and wasps, especially because I can’t see them or figure out where they are. Getting lost in an unfamiliar place, especially when it’s dark, can be scary as well. And on a deeper level, I would be scared and upset to lose my independence, I value that very much. If my sight were getting worse, I would want to stop it and stabilise it as soon as possible. And if I lose my sight completely, I would want to work to regain as much independence I could e.g. with a guide dog or by whatever means.

Who are your favourite bands/artists?

Queen are top of my list, while the rest of my top 10 (in no particular order) would be Status QuoThe Rolling StonesThe WhoLed ZeppelinLynyrd SkynyrdMadnessAC/DCElectric Light Orchestra and ABBA. I’ve been making a lot of posts going through my music collection, so you can see loads of other bands and songs I like there.

What is your favourite type of food?

Chicken. Whether it be roasted, or southern fried, or with sweet and sour sauce, or in a curry, I always enjoy it. Fish and chips is great too. And in terms of sweet treats, you can’t go wrong with things like chocolate or Pringles.

Do you play any musical instruments?

No. I used to play the keyboard a bit as a kid though. And I wish I could play the electric guitar, that’d be pretty cool.

What is your favourite TV show or movie?

Doctor WhoThe Big Bang Theory and The Last Leg are my top 3 at the moment, but I like lots of other shows as well. Once I’ve finished posting about my music collection, I’ll move on to my DVD collection, that’ll give you a good insight into the stuff I like.

Where would you like to travel to?

I’d love to visit America again, seeing some of the states I’ve been to before (New York, Washington, Kentucky) as well as others too (e.g. Florida). Places like New Zealand, Canada and Japan would be interesting to visit as well, or a nice cruise somewhere. There’s a lot of the world I’d love to see really.

Do you have any pets? Or have you owned any pets before?

No. When I was little I had a goldfish called Tommy, and I got on well with a couple of neighbourhood cats that my grandmother allowed to come in to her house, but that’s it.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

Family and friends are the obvious first choices of course. I also admire people with visual impairments and other disabilities and illnesses, who use their conditions in a positive way to educate, support and inspire others, whether it be bloggers I follow or Paralympians or whoever.

What is your biggest achievement?

Holding down a good job for over 10 years. It was, and still is, my first job since leaving university, and I’ve learnt a great deal, made many good friends, gained a lot of confidence, and given myself solid foundations which I can build upon in the future. I didn’t know if it would work out or not to begin with, especially as it wasn’t an area of work I had studied for or had intended to be in. But I still grasped the opportunity when it was presented to me, and haven’t regretted it since.

There you go, thank you for reading! 🙂 I nominate See My Way, Life Unscripted and The Smile Finders, all of whom write enjoyable and interesting blogs, to answer these questions if they wish:

  1. If you were to win the lottery, what would you buy first?
  2. What is your favourite dessert?
  3. If you could have 3 celebrities over for a dinner party, who would you invite and why?
  4. Who are your favourite bands/artists?
  5. What are your favourite TV shows?
  6. If you could go back in time and give your teenage self one piece of advice, what would it be?
  7. Which is your favourite social media site?
  8. Do you have any favourite jokes?
  9. Do you enjoy playing or watching any sports?
  10. Who would play you in a film of your life?
  11. What would be your dream job?
