Queen are my favourite band of all time. While the words ‘genius’ and ‘legend’ can be overused, they undoubtedly apply to Freddie Mercury, who was taken from us far too soon. And all of the members of the group are legends in their own right. I never get tired of hearing their amazing music.
And right now the band are experiencing yet another wave of well-deserved popularity and publicity thanks to the new Bohemian Rhapsody movie that came our recently. There were some hurdles in its development, it’s fair to say, but they got there in the end. And to help celebrate it, the shopping district of Carnaby in London have got lights up with lyrics from Bohemian Rhapsody and a special pop-up Queen shop that’s also a mini-museum.
So back in October I visited the Queen shop soon after it opened and got myself a few things. And then yesterday I went to see the film, and took another walk to Carnaby to see the lights. So in this post I’m going to tell you what I thought of the movie, share some photos of the Carnaby lights and the Queen shop, and show you what I bought. I hope you enjoy it!
Note: This post is not sponsored, and I’ve had no contact with anybody connected with Carnaby, Queen or the movie. I explored all of this purely as a fan, so all opinions are my own.

We did it! 🙂 On Sunday 21 October, after a month’s delay due to the typical British weather, I finally got to do my charity abseil down the ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower in aid of nystagmus research. That’s a drop of 80 metres (262 feet) from the UK’s tallest sculpture!
It was my first ever fundraising challenge and my first ever abseil, and therefore a big deal for a beginner like me. And it was an amazing experience, which I’m excited to tell you about in this post. I’ve also made a video that includes headcam footage from my descent, so do check that out as well.
Don’t forget you can still sponsor me until 23 March 2019. And thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. Look out for your name at the end of this post and in the credits of my video (unless you were anonymous of course). Anybody who donates later will be added to this post and will get a shoutout in later videos too.
So I hope you enjoy reading about my abseil adventure, including my fundraising achievements and what happened on the day itself! Thanks again for your support!

Time for another monthly update, and it’s fair to say that September was very busy and productive, as well as throwing up one or two surprises, which in turn are paving the way for a very interesting October. There is of course a video to go with this post, and I hope you enjoy this little catch-up as usual!

Even though my abseil for nystagmus research has had to be postponed (it’ll now be on 21st October), nystagmus has still been the big topic this month, because on Saturday I attended the annual Open Day held by the Nystagmus Network.
This was my second time going to this event, following my experience last year when I gave my first public talk. So this year was much more relaxed, because I didn’t have to do anything! And it was a wonderful day, so I thought I’d give an overview of how it went.

It’s now time to do my August Favourites post and video, to bring myself up to date, before I get into an eventful September. August was again busy on the social media front, and there was important stuff going on at home too. But I also had time to go out and do a nice variety of things as well. So it was another productive and enjoyable month, and I hope you enjoy reading about it.

Time for another monthly favourites post and video, looking back at July. Things were very busy and successful on the blog and social media this month, I enjoyed some fun social events, museum visits and other entertainment, and I even got a bit sporty for once, all while enjoying the sweltering heatwave. So it was a pretty good month, and I hope you enjoy my review of it.
And if you do enjoy reading about the things I get up to, I would love it if you would consider sponsoring my charity abseil in September. That would mean a lot to me. A massive thank you to my amazing sponsors so far! I’ll keep updating that shoutouts page as donations come in, including links for fellow bloggers, so do chip in if you want a mention. You’ll also get mentions in my videos as well, as a couple of people have done in this case. Quite a few people have donated since I filmed the video last week!

Over the past couple of months I’ve seen a couple of theatre shows which are in complete contrast to each other – one a dramatic play (A Monster Calls), the other an interactive comedy (Knightmare Live). Yet both feature monsters and scary situations in their own way. So as I’ve only had the chance to write about them now, I thought I’d put them together in one post, because they’re so different.
So I hope you like reading about them. They’ve both finished their runs at their respective venues, but they may well appear elsewhere. So I recommend keeping an eye out for them, as I did enjoy them both. And if this post does entertain you, please consider sponsoring my upcoming charity abseil – that will be a bit scary for me, but I’m very excited about it too!
