50 Random Facts About Me

This is an idea I’ve seen elsewhere that I thought might be fun to do, so you can find out a bit more about me. A few of these facts you’ll know from elsewhere in my blog, but most I’ve never mentioned here before.

Since posting this, I’ve also made a video, which contains some of the same information as this post, but also some different facts as well, so do check it out:

Doctor Who – Series 9 – Blu-Ray Review

I love Doctor Who, particularly ‘New Who’ from 2005 onwards. I should watch more of the Classic era, I know – I’ve seen a few of the older stories on TV or online and they’ve been alright, and I probably would watch more if I could easily and legally stream them from somewhere. But in any case, I’m enjoying the modern ones very much, and they were my first proper introduction to our Gallifreyan hero.

Audio Description & DVD Navigation

I’ve just received, and have happily started watching, Doctor Who Series 9 on Blu-ray, for which I’ve written a review post. But coming from a visually impaired person’s perspective, I’m very pleased to see they’re continuing with audio navigation and audio description on the discs. Sherlock gets the same treatment as well.

I personally find it very useful for pointing out smaller details that I’ve missed, and for reading text on the screen that I would otherwise have to pause and squint at to read, among other things. But it’s frustrating that such audio assistance isn’t much more widespread. So I thought I’d quickly explain what it is and why it’s useful.

An Awkward Bus Trip

Recently a friend and I went to see the new Star Wars film (The Force Awakens). The Star Wars films involve a lot of travelling across the galaxies, but we had a difficult journey ourselves trying to get to see it.

Journal – June 2006

May 2021 Introduction:

Welcome to another set of entries from my old journal. This month wasn’t as eventful as the previous one, but there were still various bits and pieces to mention, including a training course at work, the World Cup, music downloads and DVD purchases, and other bits and bobs. So I hope you enjoy!

April 2021 Introduction:

Welcome to another bumper set of entries from my old journal. This was a very busy month, as I had 3 trips away – attending a Mac training course in Manchester, staying with a friend in Exeter to play at a quiz night, and spending a week in Bournemouth with a couple of mates. And at home I was continuing to make good use of our new broadband connection, while the new series of Doctor Who was starting on TV. So there’s a lot to mention this time, I hope you enjoy it!

Journal – April 2006

April 2021 Introduction:

It’s time to rewind 15 years exactly as we look at another set of entries from my old journal. This was the month we got broadband at home for the first time, I got some equipment to help me do my job from Access To Work, and I attended another printing trade show with my work colleagues. There were also more DVD and music purchases, the return of Doctor Who for its second series, and various other bits and pieces as usual. So I hope you enjoy this latest look back!

Journal – March 2006

April 2021 Introduction:

Welcome to the next set of posts from my old journal. This month started off pretty quiet, much like the previous two, but things got very busy near the end with a brand new PC, preparations for the installation of broadband, repairs for other equipment, new DVD and music purchases, and various other little things. So quite a bit happened in the end, and I hope you enjoy reading about it.

Journal – January-February 2006

April 2021 Introduction:

Here we go with another year from my old journal. As is often the case each year, January and February were pretty quiet, so I’ve combined them together. There wasn’t a lot to talk about, but there was a bit of socialising with friends in Exeter, some building work going on at home, more DVDs for my collection, and other random bits and pieces of news. So I hope you enjoy this latest set of posts.

Journal – December 2005

April 2021 Introduction:

Time to finish off another year from my old journal, and there’s a lot packed into this latest collection of entries, including updates about my Access To Work support, meeting up with friends, our first look at digital TV, more DVD and music purchases, and news stories that caught my eye. Plus of course there’s plenty of talk about Christmas. And I conclude with my most extensive end-of-year recap so far, including reminders of news stories that weren’t mentioned in my journal entries during the year but were still important or interesting. So I hope you enjoy it all!
