Music Collection – H & I

I’m going through my music collection to list many of the artists and tracks I like, so you can see the variety of things I enjoy, and now I’m up to the letters H & I. As before, I’m adding the tracks I mention to my Youtube playlist of favourite music, which you can shuffle to your heart’s content. There’s now over 1,000 tracks on it! 🙂

My favourite artists beginning with H & I are Hank Marvin and Ian Dury & The Blockheads:

  • Hank Marvin – Member of The Shadows and a great solo artist in his own right. He is a truly legendary and wonderful guitarist, and I love his sound. I have quite a few of his solo albums and a live DVD, favourite tracks including:
    • Light My Fire
    • It Must Be Love
    • You’re Beautiful
    • While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    • Ticket To Ride
    • A Tall Dark Stranger
    • Sunny Afternoon
    • American Pie
    • Hotel California
    • Your Song
    • Sealed With A Kiss
    • California Girls
    • Waterloo Sunset
    • Move It (featuring Cliff Richard)
    • Devil Woman
    • Peggy Sue
    • Oh Boy!
    • That’ll Be The Day
    • Rave On
    • Heartbeat
    • The Rise & Fall Of Flingel Bunt (live on stage with his son Ben)
    • A Hard Day’s Night
    • Love Is All Around
    • James Bond Medley
    • We Are The Champions (featuring Brian May)
  • Ian Dury & The Blockheads – I have their Greatest Hits, which has a lot of fun tracks like:

DVD cover for Hank Plays Live, featuring Hank Marvin live in concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Screengrab of albums in my iTunes collection by artists beginning with H & I, including Hank Marvin, The Hollies, Howard Goodall, Howard Shore and Ian Dury & The Blockheads.

Other songs I like from my collection are:

  • Haircut 100 – Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl) and Love Plus One.
  • Hall & Oates – Maneater, Out Of Touch and I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)
  • Halo James – Could Have Told You So
  • Hamilton Bohannon – Disco Stomp
  • Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds – Fallin’ In Love
  • Handel – Hallelujah Chorus, Water Music – Hornpipe, Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba and La Réjouissance (Music For The Royal Fireworks). See, I like a bit of classical as well!

  • Herbie Hancock – Rockit
  • Herman’s Hermits – I’m Into Something Good, A Must To Avoid, No Milk Today, Silhouettes and There’s A Kind Of Hush

  • High Contrast – I have his album The Road Goes On Forever, featuring music he created for use in the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony (and I have the official Isles Of Wonder soundtrack album for that too). Favourite tracks include The Road Goes On Forever (the One Minute To Midnight Mix was used for the opening 60 second countdown), For Years, Strutter and The Long Way Home.
  • The High Numbers (aka The Who) – Zoot Suit, I’m The Face and Here ‘Tis. As I understand it, The Who changed their name to The High Numbers on the advice of their manager at the time, to try and appeal to a mod audience, but quickly found new management and changed their name back to The Who afterwards.
  • The Highwaymen – Michael Row The Boat Ashore
  • The Hives – Hate To Say I Told You So
  • The Hollies – He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, The Air That I Breathe, Just One Look, Here I Go Again and Bus Stop
  • The Hollywood Argyles – Alley Oop
  • Honeybus – I Can’t Let Maggie Go
  • The Honeycombs – Have I The Right?
  • Hot Butter – Popcorn
  • Hot Chocolate – Everyone’s A Winner, So You Win Again, You Sexy Thing, It Started With A Kiss and Emma
  • Howard Jones – New Song and What Is Love?
  • Hue And Cry – Labour Of Love
  • Huey Lewis And The News – Hip To Be Square, The Power Of Love, Stuck With You, If This Is It and Do You Believe In Love?
  • Human League – (Keep Feeling) Fascination, Don’t You Want Me?, Human and Love Action (I Believe In Love)
  • Humble Pie – Natural Born Boogie
  • Hurricane Smith – Don’t Let It Die
  • Ian Hunter – Once Bitten, Twice Shy
  • Ian Meeson & Belinda Gillett – Who Wants To Live Forever? This cover of Queen’s song was a charity single for the British Bone Marrow Donor Appeal in 1989, and was featured on Queen’s Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD. It’s a lovely version.
  • Icehouse – Hey Little Girl
  • Iggy Pop – Lust For Life and The Passenger

  • Isley Jasper Isley – Caravan Of Love
  • It Bites – Calling All The Heroes
  • Ivy League – Tossin’ And Turnin’

As for theme music and songs, I also enjoy the following from my collection, which are on my theme music playlist:

  • Harold Faltermeyer – Axel F, from the movie Beverly Hills Cop, and the anthem from Top Gun (with Steve Stevens)
  • Harold South – The theme music to classic cop show The Sweeney. I have all the episodes on DVD, it’s a great show.
  • Harry Stoneham – The theme tune to the Parkinson chat show.
  • Henry Mancini – The theme to the Pink Panther movie.
  • Howard Goodall – A wonderful composer who wrote the themes for the TV shows Blackadder, Red Dwarf, QI2Point4 Children, and arranged The Lord Is My Shepherd for the sitcom The Vicar Of Dibley (among many other things).
  • Howard Shore – Composed the beautiful music for Peter Jackson’s movie trilogies for The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit. Tracks like Old Friends, Concerning Hobbits and The Fellowship are particular favourites.
  • Hubert Bath – Out Of The Blue, the uplifting and iconic theme for BBC Radio’s Sports Report programme, currently broadcast on Radio 5 Live.
  • Ira Newborn – Composed the theme tune for the TV comedy series Police Squad! and the more successful Naked Gun trilogy of films that were based on the show.
  • Isaac Hayes – The theme to the movie Shaft. Never seen the film, but this is a classic tune.

While going through Youtube to add the above to my playlists, I stumbled upon some compilations of Doctor Who set to the Red Dwarf theme tune, effectively making new title sequences. And they work really well. So I’ll leave you with those:
