Music Collection – G

I’m going through my music collection to list many of the artists and tracks I like, so you can see the variety of things I enjoy, and now I’m up to the letter G. As before, I’m adding the tracks I mention to my Youtube playlist of favourite music, which you can shuffle to your heart’s content. There’s now over 1,000 tracks on it! 🙂

My favourite artists beginning with G are George Michael and Guns N Roses:

  • George Michael – I have a Greatest Hits collection, favourite tracks including:
    • Jesus To A Child
    • Careless Whisper
    • Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (with Elton John)
    • Faith
    • Fastlove
  • Guns N’ Roses – I have a Greatest Hits collection, and their Appetite For Destruction album, favourite tracks including:
    • Welcome To The Jungle
    • Paradise City
    • Sweet Child O’ Mine
    • Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door
    • November Rain
    • Live And Let Die

Screengrab of albums in my iTunes collection by artists beginning with G, including George Michael, Georgie Fame, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Glen Campbell and Guns N' Roses.

Other songs I like from my collection are:

  • Gabrielle – Out Of Reach
  • Gallagher & Lyle – I Wanna Stay With You
  • The Gap Band – Oops Upside Your Head
  • Gary Moore – Parisienne Walkways and Still Got The Blues For You
  • Gary Numan – Cars
  • Gary Puckett & The Union Gap – Young Girl
  • Gary U.S. Bonds – This Little Girl
  • Gary Wright – Dream Weaver
  • Gazebo – I Like Chopin and Lunatic
  • Gene Chandler – Duke Of Earl
  • Gene Pitney – Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa and Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart
  • Gene Vincent – Be-Bop-A-Lula, Blue Jean Bop and Pistol Packin’ Mama
  • Generation X – Dancing With Myself and Valley Of The Dolls
  • Genesis – Invisible Touch, Follow You, Follow Me and Turn It On Again
  • Geordie – All Because Of You
  • George Harrison – I’ve Got My Mind Set On You, My Sweet Lord and What Is Life?
  • George McCrae – I Can’t Leave You Alone, It’s Been So Long and Rock Your Baby
  • George Thorogood & The Destroyers – Bad To The Bone, Madison Blues and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer
  • The Georgia Satellites – Battleship Chains
  • Georgie Fame – Yeh Yeh
  • Gerry & The Pacemakers – Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying, How Do You Do It?, I Like It, I’m The One and You’ll Never Walk Alone
  • Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street and Night Owl
  • The Gibson Brothers – Cuba
  • Gidea Park – Beach Boys Gold and Seasons Of Gold
  • Gilbert O’Sullivan – Get Down, No Matter How I Try and Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day
  • Gina G – Ooh Aah… Just A Little Bit
  • Gino Soccio – Try It Out
  • Gladys Knight & The Pips – Midnight Train To Georgia
  • Glass Tiger – Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)
  • Glen Campbell – Rhinestone Cowboy
  • Glenn Frey – Smuggler’s Blues
  • Gloria Estefan – Rhythm Is Gonna Get You
  • Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive
  • Gloria Jones – Tainted Love. This is the original song from the 60’s, whereas Soft Cell did a much more famous cover version in the 80’s.
  • Go West – Call Me, King Of Wishful Thinking and We Close Our Eyes
  • Golden Earring – Radar Love and Buddy Joe
  • Gompie – Living Next Door To Alice (Who The Fuck Is Alice?). The original, more polite version was done by Smokie, but it’s still hard to resist adding the extra line whenever I hear it.
  • Gonzalez – Haven’t Stopped Dancing yet
  • Gooding – Licorice & Grape Kool Aid. This is a track used in the feature-length DVD documentary The Matrix Revisited, which is obviously all about The Matrix. This track (and 40 others) are available in a special Jukebox feature on the disc – on the original DVD, it was hidden as an easter egg, but in the Ultimate Matrix Collection it’s a regular menu item. Most of the tracks in that jukebox aren’t particularly interesting to me, but I rather like this one, it’s very catchy.
  • Gotan Project – Santa Maria, a catchy tango number used in the soundtrack to TV show Chuck.
  • Grace Jones – Pull Up To The Bumper
  • Graham Bonney – Super Girl
  • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Hold Back The Night
  • Grand Funk Railroad – Their cover of Gimme Shelter, originally by The Rolling Stones
  • Grand Vanity – Got A Nerve, another catchy song from TV show Chuck.
  • Grandmaster Flash – The Message
  • Gregory Abbott – Shake You Down
  • Grieg – In The Hall Of The Mountain King
  • Greyhound – Black & White
  • Guess Who – American Woman
  • Gutter Brothers – Summer In The City. This brilliant cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s song was used in Miami Twice, a feature-length Christmas special of Only Fools And Horses.
  • Gwen Guthrie – Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ On But The Rent
  • Gwen McCrae – Keep The Fire Burning

As for theme music and songs, I also enjoy the following from my collection, which are on my theme music playlist:

  • Garbage – Their theme for the James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough.
  • Gary Portnoy – Where Everybody Knows Your Name, the theme to sitcom Cheers. Never seen the show, but it’s a nice little theme song.
  • Girls Aloud – Their theme to the St Trinians movie.
  • Gladys Knight – Her theme for the James Bond movie Licence To Kill.
  • Gordon Giltrap – The Carnival, used as the theme for the TV holiday show Wish You Were Here…?

Finally, to finish this post, here’s my favourite performance from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, with George Michael doing a great version of Somebody To Love.

    1. Thanks Steph! I’ve accumulated a lot over the past couple of decades, it’s certainly added up! I could have just done one post listing a few favourite artists, but it’s more interesting for me to go through my collection properly, bit by bit, and make up a proper playlist. So there’s plenty more to come yet. Hope you have a good weekend too! 🙂
